DTF Transfers FAQ
DTF Transfers — Frequently Asked Questions
General
What is a DTF transfer?
DTF (Direct to Film) is a printing method where your design is printed onto a special film and then heat-pressed onto fabric. The result is a full-color, soft, durable print that works on virtually any fabric type.
What makes Boulder Impressions DTF transfers different?
We print every transfer in-house at our New Hampshire facility using professional-grade equipment. You get consistent quality, fast turnaround, and a local team you can actually reach.
What fabrics can I press DTF transfers onto?
DTF transfers work on cotton, polyester, poly blends, denim, nylon, and most fabric types. They do not adhere to waterproof or water-resistant fabrics. See our Pressing Instructions for full fabric compatibility.
Ordering
What's the difference between a gang sheet and an individual transfer?
A gang sheet lets you pack multiple designs onto one sheet of film to maximize value — great if you have several designs or need multiples of the same design. An individual transfer is a single design in a specific size, ideal for one-off orders or simple placements like a left chest or hat logo.
How do I build a gang sheet?
On our Custom DTF Gang Sheet product page, click Build Your Gang Sheet to open the designer. Upload your artwork, arrange your designs, choose your sheet length, and add to cart.
Can I just upload a completed gang sheet file?
Yes! On the same product page, click Upload Gang Sheet to submit a print-ready file directly. We print it exactly as uploaded.
Do you have a minimum order?
No minimum order. Order as little as one transfer.
Artwork & Files
What file types do you accept?
We accept PNG, PDF, SVG, AI, EPS, and PSD files. PNG with a transparent background is preferred for the cleanest results.
What resolution do I need?
Minimum 300 DPI at your intended print size. Low-resolution files may result in blurry prints and cannot be corrected after submission.
Will you fix or edit my artwork?
No — we print artwork exactly as uploaded. Please review your file carefully before ordering. See our full Artwork Requirements for guidelines.
Can I use copyrighted or licensed artwork?
No. We do not print copyrighted, trademarked, or licensed artwork without written proof of authorization. Orders containing unauthorized artwork will be cancelled and refunded.
Pressing & Application
How do I press my DTF transfer?
Press at 305–320°F for 15–17 seconds with medium-firm pressure. Peel warm or cold. See our full Pressing Instructions for step-by-step guidance.
Do I need a heat press or can I use a household iron?
A heat press is strongly recommended for consistent pressure and temperature. A household iron can work in a pinch but results may vary and adhesion may be weaker.
How long will the transfer last?
When pressed correctly and cared for properly, DTF transfers are very durable and wash-resistant. Wash inside out in cold water and tumble dry on low for best longevity.
